I was born in Guelph, and although I didn’t live here until my first year of high school, when people ask where I’m from, I’m proud to say I’m from Guelph! I graduated from the University of Guelph with a BA Honours in International Development with an Area of Emphasis in Political Science and Administrative Change. After also studying at the University of Havana, in Cuba, and living abroad in Spain and Buenos Aires, Argentina, I moved to Toronto at 23 to operate and manage an upscale dog store.
My mother, Deb Allen has been in the real estate business for over 25 years and my father, Geoff Allen, has an 18 year track record working alongside her. 11 years ago, I too accepted my family calling and began my real estate career in Toronto before moving to RLP Royal City to work with Deb and Geoff.
I believe investing in real estate is important to one’s financial future and why I have bought and sold properties in the Guelph, Hamilton and Toronto markets encouraging my clients to do the same. I love working with first time buyers, sellers, and seasoned veterans of the real estate market too!
The main markets on which I now focus are Guelph and Hamilton. I’ve lived in Hamilton for the past 5 years and have never found a place I feel quite so at home in Canada. The art scene, the entrepreneurial spirit, the cafes and restaurants, along with lakefront trails and many outdoor parks to enjoy, makes this a great place to call home! Take a chance on Hamilton. You won’t be disappointed!
I have been enjoying helping my clients achieve their dreams for 2 and a half decades! My background is in economics so I take their finances and their retirement positions seriously. To gain further knowledge and insight I was a past member of the Board of Directors at the real estate board for 3 years. I feel no investment has the same value as our personal homes which are tax exempt when we profit from them. They have the added benefit of providing us with a safe enjoyable place to live, which can’t be beat!
I have a special appreciation for the Canadian Forces since both my husband’s father and my father fought in W.W.II and my father-in-law was a prisoner of war for 2 years. To show my respect and appreciation for what they and others like them did for us and are doing for us still, I joined the reserves for 8 years, where I met the bravest and strongest people I know.
I love to support my community. We get so much from our parks, our social systems and our artistic community that it only seems right to give something in return. I spend time volunteering with the Rotary Club of Guelph South, and served as President of the Club for a term, to do my part in providing a caring community. I have worked with Women in Crisis as a volunteer over the years and try to give back in as many ways as possible.
I have a family with my husband Geoff, three sons, Steve, Rick, and Adam, and our daughter Cassandra who works in real estate with us. I also have the most amazing Grandchildren, Ava, Rose, and Grayson. We bought a farm near Stayner, ON in 2012 so we could have a family hub to enjoy all that Simcoe county has to offer!
I have been providing real estate services to the aggregate industry for 15 years. Services include land acquisitions and sales, value opinions and other services on a contract basis throughout Southern Ontario and the near north of Ontario. As a member of OSSGA and OFA, I continue to be updated on issues that affect the stone and gravel industry and the agricultural sector. Farms and quarry operations are the primary areas of interest as, it could be said, they are the prime economic drivers and builders of Ontario.
I also have a special knowledge of farms since Deb and I live on 87 acres in Clearview Twp. just outside of Wasaga Beach.
When you’re making a decision about a big purchase, a little hand holding goes a long way. More than fifteen years in Real Estate has taught me that.
I grew up on a tobacco farm in Tillsonburg and like my brothers and sisters I was expected to get a University degree so I attended the University of Guelph where I obtained my Bachelor of Arts . After university I traveled broadly, backpacking across Australia, New Zealand and England.
The traveling bug had bit me hard so one of the highlights of my life was discovering our own great nation, our fabulous Canada. I worked for years traveling back and forth all across our gorgeous country, selling Glamour photography (a big fad at the time) until I chose Montreal to settle for a time, then Guelph as my home.
Guelph is a very unique and vibrant community. I work and play here so I do what I can to contribute to keeping it such a wonderful place to live for my family and yours. I give back by volunteering on fundraising committees through Rotary, church, or other opportunities that arise such as Realtors Help.
Over the years I have learned how to work graciously with a vast number of diverse personalities, a skill that has come in handy in real estate. Another key skill that I have is a proficiency in home decor . I have developed a keen eye for it and spent several years specializing in staging homes. For Sellers, I understand which small projects will help sell homes for top dollar. For buyers, I am able to help them see beyond the surface decor and help to imagine themselves in a home that is not perfect but, with some time and elbow grease, will be perfect. This helps in choosing a home that works within your budget.
Guelph, Kitchener, Waterloo and the Cambridge area tend to be my specialty for helping with your housing needs but I always keep my finger on the Real Estate pulse across Ontario and Canada so call me when you get ready and let’s get started!
